Begin keeping tack of your practice time. This week you should practice a total of 30 minutes. Spread out your practicing so that you do 6-8 minutes five times this week.
You will turn in your first practice card next week.

Pizzicato - Ants, Seesaw, One Up One Down and Hot Cross Buns
By Thursday, play all tunes with bow.

All Parents are invited to Back to School Night, Tuesday, August 19, 6:40pm - 8:30pm. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to learn what your students will be studying, what the expectations the teachers have for the students and how you, as a parent, can facilitate your child's learning experience. Hope to see you all on Tuesday.

8th Grade Orchestra:
Keep track of your practice time and record it on your Practice Card. Cards will be turned in for the first time by 9am on Tuesday, August 26.
Choose a scale to play daily.
G Major scale - 2 octaves
D Major scale - 2 octaves
D natural minor scale - 2 octaves
Kassation - m 1-25
Mambo - m 1-8
North Country - m 1- 27
You will have your first playing test on Monday, August 25 on Kassation:
all violins - m. 1-16
violas - m. 17-40
c/b - m. 17-40

7th Grade Orchestra

Week of August 11, 2008

Welcome back to Eastwood! Be sure to bring your instruments on Thursday, August 14. We will begin playing that day.

8th Grade Orchestra
Warm up every day with a two octave scale. This week do a D and G major scale. Listen to your tone, think about posture, think weight of arm on bow.
Begin to play all the new pieces on the folder. We will start with Kassation and Sea Mariner.
Orchestra Policy sheet is due Friday.
There will be an equipment check on Monday, August 18.
Practice cards will begin next week.

Orchestra Policy sheet is due Friday.

6th Grade Orchestra
Bring your instrument (violins and violas) on Thursday, August 14.
Practice your bow hand on a pencil every day 15 times.
Review the parts of the instrument. You can check yourself by reviewing in your Essential Elements book.
Practice from rest to play position (violins and violas)
Practice posture and position for cellos and basses. Cellos and basses can bring their home instruments to school so that I can put tapes on the fingerboard and tune your instrument for the first time.
Orchestra Policy sheet is due Friday.
There will be an equipment check on Monday, August 18.
