Eight Grade Orchestra:
Practice cards due any time Monday or by 9am Tuesday.
A Major Two Octave Scale
Shifting 4 and French Folk Song Shifting
Turn in permission slip by Wednesday to ride bus to NCHS on Monday, October 6
Mambo and Kassation should be close to performance ready. Work on details and style this week.
Bring all holiday music to class every day.

8th Grade Orchestra: Practice cards due on Monday or by 9AM on Tuesday
Two Octave C Major Scale every day
shifting 3 every day
Mambo - entire piece - As you practice be sure you are playing the dynamics that are written.
Kassation - entire piece - Practice with a metronome at eighth note = 130
Land of Liberty - Are you changing tempos and styles where marked?
all holiday pieces in folder - Choose a different one every day to focus on. Are you playing with spirit and energy?

7th Grade Orchestra: Practice cards due on Monday or by 9AM on Tuesday
Two Octave C Major Scale every day

E.E. 86-94
Integrity - entire piece - As you practice be sure you are playing the dynamics that are written.
Joust - entire piece - Practice with a metronome at eight note = 108 at beginning and = 128 at m. 27
Night Shift - Practice your section that focuses on position work.

6th Grade Orchestra: Practice cards due on Monday or by 9AM on Tuesday. This week you should practice a total of one hour for the week.
One Octave D Major Scale every day
All the tunes that we have worked on in the white book. Learn Going Stronger
E.E. 23- 36.
Study your note flashcards or go to "Note Name Trainer" in the left hand column on the blog under "Useful Links." You can score yourself on how well you know your notes. Be sure you are on the correct clef. Go to "settings" to find your clef sign.
Remember that your tone is produced by:
keeping your bow at the sounding point
keeping your bow parallel
using the weight of your arm
maintaining a good speed on your bow

8th Grade Orchestra:
Practice Cards due by Tuesday, 9AM!
We will have orchestra on Monday and Friday only due to ISTEP testing.
C Major scale - two octaves
Kassation - entire piece
Mambo - entire piece
Flutes - m. 35 - end - We haven't done this in class. See if you can do it all on your own.

7th Grade Orchestra:
Practice Cards due by Tuesday, 9AM!
We will have orchestra on Monday and Friday only due to ISTEP testing.
E.E. - 80-89
Integrity - entire piece
Joust - entire piece
Night Shift - be able to play the main melody, especially where you have your shifting section
Shifting 3 - everyone should be able to pass this test by the week after ISTEP

6th Grade Orchestra:
Practice Cards due by Tuesday, 9AM! This week you should be practicing for one hour total this week.
We will have orchestra on Monday, Tuesday and Friday only due to ISTEP testing.
There will be a 90 second timed note quiz over the notes on your flashcards on Tuesday. Study these every day. Be able to say the names and the fingers used to play the note.

Pick at least four of these short tunes to play every day. Then play each of your chosen pieces at least three times during your practice. Think about your posture and bow hand. Are your fingers curved on the bow? Is your bow on the Kreisler Highway and parallel to the bridge? How is your sound? Are you opening up your bow arm?
