Week of September 13, 2009

In class we talk about playing on the "Kreisler Highway" (not "Chrysler") which was named after a famous violinist. Go to http://www.karadar.com/Dictionary/kreisler.html to read about this famous musician. Answer these questions about Kreisler for extra credit points:
Where was Kreisler born?
What technique was he much admired for?
What country was Kreisler a citizen of?
Email your answers to cimboden@msdwt.k12.in.us for 5 extra credit points for each question answered.

8th Grade Orchestra:
Playing test on Sinfonia on Monday:
1sts: m17-24, 64-67
2nds: m55-76
violas: m55-67
cellos: m68-73, 83-91
bass: m9-16, 68-72, 83-90
You should be able to play and write these scales: G,D,C major, d natural minor
Find the measures that give you trouble in Sinfonia and Variations. Isolate these measures and play them 10 times every day. Now play the pieces in their entirety. How is your tone? dynamics? intonation? posture? Does the music sound interesting to listen to when you play it?

7th Grade Orchestra:
Playing test on Creepy Crawl on Tuesday:
1sts: m37-end
2nds: m21-33
violas: m17-36
cellos: m 21-36
basses: m13-32.
You should be able to play and write these scales: G,D,C major, g natural minor
Find the measures that give you trouble in Creepy Crawl and North Country Legend. Isolate these measures and play them 10 times every day. Now play the peces in their entirety. How is your tone? dynamics? intonation? posture? Does the music sound interesting to listen to when you play it?

6th Grade Orchestra: This week you will need to practice 1 hour and 15 minutes for an A.
Playing test in class on Tuesday. You choose which piece you will play from the following list:
SeeSaw
One Up, One Down
Hot Cross Buns
French Folk Song
See the Little Monkey
You will be graded on: correct notes, correct rhythms, good bowing and bow hand, intonation (how well you play in tune), tone quality and POSTURE.
Play your piece several times for your family and friends before the playing test so you can see how it feels to play for others.
Be sure to bring your Essential Elements book and flashcards to class every day.
We will begin work in the Essential Elements this week. You should be working on EE 2- 17.
